As we age and our body changes, so should our makeup and skincare routine. We spoke with Elan Bongiorno (@beautybyelan) about makeup tips for older women and feeling good about the skin you’re in! We will most certainly be keeping these inspiring and useful little tips in our back pocket…
1. If you could give one piece of advice to your 20-year-old self, what would it be?
I would tell my 20-year-old self, don't worry about it. It's all gonna be okay. Follow your dreams, follow your impulses, and pay attention. Learn from every single thing, and compassion is the key. And definitely love yourself!
2. What is your best kept secret for women over 40 when applying their makeup?
Invest in cream & liquid based products! They look more natural on the skin & are easy to apply. Cream products illuminate the skin for a healthy, youthful glow! Also, use a foundation and concealer shade that's a little bit warmer than your skin tone ...makes you look alive!
3. What piece of advice would you give a woman to feel more confident in her skin?
Once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight, or any experience that reveals the human spirit! Use affirmations everyday - look in the mirror and say them over & over again until you believe it!
4. What products would you use for a more natural makeup look?
Use colours that are close to your skin tone. More of a monochromatic look! Cream everything! Creamy products melt into the skin for a more natural look. Use a tinted moisturiser to even out the skin & a hydrating concealer. Skip the powder! Instead use a matifying balm to take down the shine. Always use a bronzer to warm up the skin.
5. What do you think is the most important skincare item for mature skin?
Use sunscreen everyday all day!! Exfoliate with chemicals (AHAs and BHAs) twice a week. Don't over do it! Exfoliation will give a beautiful glow to the skin. Tons of moisturiser and hydration!
6. What does a self-care day look like for you?
Live healthy, eat healthy foods, get enough sleep, exercise regularly, take a bath & PILE on the Wrinkles Schminkles patches/masks & relax!!
